Fantasia 1940 - The Rite of Spring - Part 1: Genesis

Uploaded by: MorteIncarnata
Video Description:
The Rite of Spring from Disney's Fantasia. Stravinsky's omonimous score was supposed to be about primitive human rituals, but Disney's animators took a completely different inspiration from it and decided to tell the history of Earth up to the extinction of the dinosaurs. The combination of music and animation is perfect. This first part shows the evolution of Earth before the appearance of life. Please comment and rate. Thanks.

I have fantasia to thank for my love of classical music. I may not have a lot of technical music knowledge, but I love listening to it...Especially the right of spring. It's so beautifully written, but at the same time with dissonance that makes you really wake up...it's the perfect piece if you ask me. I wish I could have played it at some point in band.

with the bold originality and animation of Fantasia, it's hard not to argue that it is the greatest animation film of all time.

People have commented about this music being avante garde, but most cartoon music (Tom and Jerry et al) would be considered avante-garde if it was put forward as "serious" classical music.

Well, keep in mind, this piece (as with all pieces in both Fantasia movies) was originally performed by a professional orchestra. In The Rite of Spring's case, it was the score for a ballet.
