I disagree. I believe that minimalism is mainstream. If you harmonically analyze most popular music you will realize its not more than three or four chords the entire piece. Coldplay for example, uses on the V vi IV and I chords in their newest single Viva La Vida. This is minimalism from 35 years ago as well. It might not be as recognizable or relatable now. Still, however, it is an important work in the history of music, and is beautiful in its own sense.
