I think you are the 1 who isn't getting it. It's perfectly fine if Valentiae wants to hear the song as whining from an impossible woman, always making everybody's life impossible. MY POINT is that neither original songwriters (L
S) nor hit singer (PL) thought about it that way. Nor Thomas Mann, nor Tony Bennett (since they give us a male character). So, nothing wrong with Valentiae's own take, but the record of what the original songmakers attempted shouldn't be ignored, either.

I hear this song and am so happy that I can appreciate life so much. Can you imagine how difficult life would be for this person that cant appreciate life at all. Very deep- very sad. Peggy was so good at this type of music.

In the 1960's, Paul McCartney and The Beatles recorded the song "Till There Was You" after they heard Peggy's version, and felt inspired by it. In the 1970's, Paul and Linda got together with Peggy for dinner, and then he wrote for Peggy the song "Let's Love," which she rcorded. He also shows up in the DVD "Fever: The Music of Peggy Lee," sending her good wishes.

No, Paul liked Peggy's music, he listened to her 45 with "Till There..." and he fell in love with it. Here are Paul's own words, quoted in a Beatles book: "Peggy Lee did 'Till There Was You' .. I did not know that was from the musical The Music Man until many years later. (Funnily enough, my company now publishes the music from that show.)" When you hear their versions, it's pretty obvious The Beatles were inspired by Peggy's.

I love Pj Harvey I'm a big big fan but no way in hell is it better than Peggy's. It's kind of a mess compared to Peggy. It's trying too hard. Peggy's is superior.
