ür dieses Video! Könnten Sie vielleicht auch die Arien von Montserrat Caballé hier bei youtube reinstellen ("Arrigo, ah parli a un core" und ("Merce, dilette amiche")??? Viele Grüße.

I reply in English, Klassizismus. I understand German to some extent but I don't speak it or write in it. Arrigo is a very difficult role and Gedda concluded that it's not for his voice, that the role needed a voice like Domingo's or Vickers'. In his autobiography (1983) also Domingo wrote that everybody warns tenors about singing Otello, but nobody warns them about Arrigo, who is at least equally demanding.

Gedda was a marvelous lyric tenor, but whether he had the sheer power for this piece is still debatable -- I've heard
Richard Tucker sing it, and his version raises no such questions:) --

This role was a little too heavy for Gedda -- note how he doesn't quite ride the orchestra at 3:15-3:22. He does as well as a lyric tenor can with this music -- his high notes and mezza voce are wonderful. But he doesn't fill the aria as Richard Tucker does -- I'll post Tucker's version if I can find it; he sang it during his 1973 Carnegie Hall recital with Robert Merrill --
