I dunno...they are BOTH so TALENTED...but if someone put a gun to my head and said 'CHOOSE!' I guess I would have to choose John Williams only because I think he exhibits slightly wider parameters with regards to dynamics.
Although Segovia ... ( 9 months ago by doublealufwaffe)
Although Segovia may have been a racist, bitter, and anal person, he was still revolutionary. Agustin Barrios was a musical genius at the level of Mozart, it is easy to see why Segovia, did not like him. If it were not for Segovia, the classical guitar might still be just a folk instrument. Because of him, the classical guitar is regarded just as highly as the piano, violin, or digeridoo. I highly doubt that you will acomplish even a fraction of what Segovia did.

The "Choice" of John Williams or David Russell is like being constrained to a menu of plain beef jerky ultra dry,or the same...ultra extra dry.

Toca muy bien esta pieza, pero siento que le hace falta mas fuerza en algunas notas un poquito de velocidad en algunas partes... pero david es un gran Guitarrista no es como otros que al momento en que tocan destrosan las piezas.

2)The guitar is a concert instrument but
¿is it really in the same level as the piano, violin? I think not because of the better repertoire that these instruments have and because of popular demand. To most of the person that do not play ny instrument if you ask them "wouold you rather go to a violin concert or to a guitar concert?" They'
ll propably choose the violin. Having said this i truly belive that the guitar is a beautiful instrument in the correct hands

i think classical guitar is not as loved as piano or as violin, because it has a very small sound, you can't almost overplay the orchester, that's what makes it so limited. Guitar in general is almost more important then violin nowadays, if you think about electric- and folkguitar. these are instruments almost everyone can play.

I don't think Mozart was at the level of Barrios.. Better stop thinkin about his genius.. and start looking at the emotion he puts into the music he writes Compare "Julia Florida" with "Symphony n
º 38" it's a matter of opinion also And I don't think it's healthy to compare those composer.. specially because of the difference in the time they lived.

german, I respect your opinion but disagree a bit. I
´m a classical guitarist but also a classical singer.I think you can do so much more with toneproduction in the guitar then the piano as an example, for example you can do real legato, get many different timbres and very nice vibrato, not a pumping diaphragm vibrato as a flute has ,but a vibrato that
change in pitch

also I wanna say that I dont like to compare in instruments in a hierarki. Every instrument has his personality. I think their is a sort of snobbism by some people who think that the violin or the piano is a much better instrument because of it`s big repertoir! the guitar fits very good for intimate pieces, not so good for a 20 minutes sonata maybe.

love this vals just started to study it gotta agree with blacklunden, each instrument has its own things, even if unfortunately the guitar has less known pieces than the piano or whatever the guitar has a lot of "options" while, imo, yeah, there are a lot of great pieces for piano, but the piano lacks a lot of emotional options, sure you can have dynamics and a little articulation issues, but where are the different timbres? the guitar may have downsides, but a lot of upsides aswell

on top of that, since there are so many diversity amongst instruments, a true musician should yeah, of course, dedicate to his/her instrument, but he should on top of that be a good musician, and enjoy music in overall the old "put the fingers in the place" is the least anyone can do a true musician does much more than that

I've been to many piano/violin/guitar recitals, and I agree that the guitar is received less enthusiastically than the violin and piano. I feel this has a lot to do with the guitar's natural lack of volume ( when compared with the violin/piano). One needs to hear the guitar in a small room situation or -and this is very problematic - have the guitar amplified in some way.
