Video Description:
Madeleine Marie Robin, known as Mado Robin (December 29, 1918 - December 10, 1960), was a French coloratura soprano; she had an exceptionally wide vocal range; she hit D4 (D7 in US standards) above C (C7) in a live performance in Vichy.
Here in a live performance of Lucia di Lammermoor, she hits a B flat (Bflat6) above high C in the mad scene. She was always told not to sing the note, but she did it anyway...quite loud too.

Her runs are a bit asprated at times and her "girlish" sound is not to everyone's taste. However, she is an enchanting singer with a distinctly "French" timbre. Moreover, her skill in staccati and her AMAZING upper extension has never been equalled. More importantly, the upper extension is truly beautiful and a "real" note - NOT the usual high screech or the wail of a drowning cat.

I usually enjoy her singing. Wasn't she discovered either by Giuseppe De Luca or Titta Ruffo? She is probably the most underrated soprano I can think of.

I believe it was Ruffo who 'discovered' her and became her mentor for a while too...I agree, she is awfully underrated, and most people who know who she is only know her as the soprano who could 'sing the high notes' and completely overlook her fantastic technique, perfect ease of singing, remarkable execution of cadenzas, trills, etc.

I think singing it
´s not see how high can i reach the notes. I think that the most important thing when you sing it´s in a high grade, the color of your voice, not just a good vibrato and coloratura like agilita. So i don´t like her color voice, but she sing very good with i brilliant technic. But i´m not agree w
ith people that think that when you reach so higher notes you are better than other singers that don´t have this notes.

even regine velasquez cant come close to this singer mado robin sings not in whistle register but in chest and head voice.
