Vera Bila Paso Panori (romani, romany, gypsy)
Uploaded by: Tsigano2
Video Description:
The Singer is Romani which is an ethnic group in Europe who have their roots from NW India. The language they speak is very similar to modern Panjabi
Rajasthani and is a mix of old Sanskrit, Indian Persian, Rajputti
Panjabi. The Romani have nothing to do with Rumania (also spelt Romania or Roumania). The names just sound coincidentally similar. The word Romani comes from the Sanskrit word Rama which through the Rajasthani dialect becomes Roma. Other Indian words such as Lali have are also pronounced loli.
In the Rumanian language there is the word 'Rumani' which in their language is the plural of the English word Romanian. We should remember we are writing in English and not Rumanian. In the English language the word Romani means the Romani ethnic group originating from India and it has done for ce
nturies. Ever since the Romani people arrived into Europe about 700 years ago they have faced much horrific racial oppression. As a result many would keep moving from town to town as a means to survive. They are not called the "Roma" as many people wrongfully call them. The word Roma is the plural
of the word Rom using Romani grammar. In English the word translates as Roms. Most Romani do not call themselves "Roma" just a branch living in Eastern Europe. Thank you. Singer Vera Bila was born May 22, 1954 in Rokycany, Czech Republic. She is daughter of the famous singer Karol Gina, and now h
as her own band Kale. She is a great lady with a kind heart and a passion for her people.

Does anyone know where I can find a clip of this singer doing a song that's called "Jak Seme" or something similar to that? I heard it on one of their CDs which I can't find anymore.
