The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy

Uploaded by: ExactKnowledge
Video Description:
In the recent study "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy", the authors of the paper, Professor Stephen Walt of Harvard University and John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, charge that the United States has willingly set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of Israel. In addition the study accuses the pro-Israeli lobby, particularly AIPAC of manipulating the U.S. media, policing academia and silencing critics of Israel by labeling them as anti-Semitic.
A new article in the New York Review of Books examines the controversial report and the reaction to it. It's called "The Storm Over the Israel Lobby." It was written by media critic Michael Massing, who joins Amy Goodman for the interview. Michael is a contributing editor of the Columbia Journalis
m Review and frequently writes for the New York Review of Books. You can read the transcript of the interview at: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/05/24/1436205

Anti-semitism has ... ( 3 weeks ago by bigjelmapro)
Anti-semitism has existed for centuries prior to Israel being established as a state. Its the baseless paranoia and giving into propaganda that promotes hatred. Islamism has been the fuel behind this. They picked up right where the Nazis left it. Its no wonder that the first pan-Arabists, which turned into Islamism, related so much to the Third Reich.
The paper's ... ( 3 weeks ago by etsneroj)
The paper's contention that the US invaded Iraq to protect Israel, contrary to our interests, is naive. Our posture towards Iraq has always been about oil. Iraq sits on the choke point of the world economy. Bush used the threat of terrorism as a pretext for regime change in hopes of guarantying our long-term access (on favored terms) to the 2d largest oil reserves in the world. France, China
Russia (our main rivals for middle eastern oil) didn't support the war for that very reason.

personally i can see why people hate jews. They're organized, work hard and control lots of high professions. Jealousy. But jews are sweet. and notice how i say, "as much." i know that they were always put into ghettos and separated, and persecuted. You sound like an old piece of shit who is condescending.
The root of " ... ( 3 weeks ago by xxmonickkkkaxx)
The root of "anti-semitism" is the Jewish faith which claims that the jews are the chosen people and everyone else is their cattle. I say that the Jews are the most antisemitic considering Palestinians are semites.
Actually even the ... ( 3 weeks ago by yoshyoka)
Actually even the oil thesys is naive as every one wich takes in to account a single variable. By the way, maybe the most relevant was neither the lobby nor the oil but the defence of the US currency: nothing can damage the US economy more than a reconversion of the raw material markets in Euro. Iraq started with it and iran have similar ideas (see Kish bourse). And guess who is now chased by the US?...
Palestinians are ... ( 3 weeks ago by etsneroj)
Palestinians are semites, but the term "antisemitism" does not refer to all semites. Just Jews. It is a term that was devised by an 19th century organization in Germany to refer to their opposition to Jews. Also, most majo religions hold that their followers are favored by god. So, your claim about "chosen people" makes no sense.
No, nothing could ... ( 3 weeks ago by etsneroj)
No, nothing could damage the US economy more than major energy shortfalls. No oil, no commerce. US intervention in the Middle East predates the currency issues you raise. And in every instance, except Beirut in 1983, etc., its stance has been about oil (from the 1953 coup in Iran to the Persian Gulf War in 1990). Oil is not the ONLY variable, but it is the dominant one. Secondary issues are support for terrorists, WMD, protecting Israel, currency issues, etc.

Naive? Try ... ( 3 weeks ago by oldjoe5)
Naive? Try accurate. Who devised the strategy of invading Iraq? The Jewish neocons, who laid it out in the Perle et al paper "A Clean Break". The paper, written Jewish american neocons was first presented to LIkud Party and Netanyahu in Israel -- as a strategy for Israeli interests, not american ones. The paper advocated the US of the US military to push for Israeli interests -- the first one being the removal of Saddam. Next up -- Syria and Iran. Read it

Probably for the same reason I was against it. Because it was a bad idea! Because the risk of making our position in the region worse, instead of better, was so great that they thought an invastion would be a strategic blunder. They were right. Cheney, Wolfowitz
Co. were wrong. I cannot imagine electing anyone who still thinks the invasion was a good idea.

dont hate on Aipac etsne Youssef Ibrahim writes: "That there is a lobby in America concerned with the well-being of Israel is a silly question. It is insane to ask whether the 6 million American Jews should be concerned about the 6 m Israeli Jews, particularly in view of the massacre of another 6 m Jews in the Holocaust. It's elementary, my dear Watson: Any people who do not care for their own are not worthy of concern. Its what all ethnic lobbies - Greek, Armenian etc-do in this democracy

It's refreshing to see someone talking against Israel. Dare they speak the Truth? It is very clear to me that Israel is INFLICTING "holacaust" type crimes against the Palestinians. The ball has always been in Israel's court. Stop building settlements in land that isn't yours. Let the Palestinans have there own land. That simple. There all animals, so after you leave the land, don't give them econmonic support anymore. Stop being hypocrites. Stop playing the anti-semetic card!its PATHETIC!

First off, Its Irsh, not IRISH. And the fact you stamp me with that means what? Are you relating the Palestinians to the IRA? Well, the whole, "wiping" off the map thing is a little over the top. Western media shows the crazies, as in all countries. Maybe israel shouldn't demolish others homes. Maybe the chosen ones shouldn't commit,"holacaust" type crimes against the Palestinans. Do not say they don't. There is alot of video evidence. Sure there is...cont

cont. Sure there is alot of extremists in Palestine, but why is this? Do they have any hope? Human nature is force, not olive branches. I do not believe in a ZOG government. The UN isn't this vast anti-semitism conspiracy. People know how the jews are. It's plain and simple. Call it racist or what you like, but there are facts, my friends. People can change, but the jews are not really liked anywhere they go. And don't give me this escape-goat BS.

"The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism" Zahir Muhsein (PLO, 1977)
