I think you are exactly right. I had the same thoughts about the song.
Music, though is all up to interpretation. It's all about what it mean to you. Because it's an art, it's poetry put to rhythym and most artists agree that even if you don't intepret their art the way they do, it's not wrong, any interp is right because you cared enough to think about it.

In case none of you know, Vera Lynn is/was a singer who was thought of as the military's angel back in WW2, because she gave the country hope during the war with her songs "We Will Meet Again" and "Over The White Cliffs of Dover". This song implys that Pink's total loss of hope is akin to what a disappearance of Vera Lynn would have been- a massive totaling of morale.
