Coloradia Velda pupa contortions
Uploaded by: jcmegabyte
Video Description:
This Velda Pine Moth caterpillar (Coloradia velda) has just shed its final skin to enter into the cocoon phase of life. This real-time footage shows how it compresses and contorts itself into the final shape before its new shell hardens. The process will complete in about 3 days, and it will stay that way until the following summer when it will metamorphosize and emerge as an adult moth.
